Mint Hill Smiles welcomes patients of all ages to our practice, and we LOVE to see children! Going to the dentist is less intimidating when your family has their check ups and cleanings together. And it’s definitely more convenient for you.

Your kids comfort and safety is our priority and our goal is to create a fun and positive environment for your kids from their very first visit. We understand the importance of avoiding negative experiences to prevent unnecessary fear of the dentist in the future.

A Kid Friendly Environment

At Mint Hill Smiles, you’ll notice right away that our office is very child friendly. Our reception area has a special nook to keep your kids busy while they wait. We have games, toys, and a mini-climbing wall to play on before their appointment and stickers and prizes for after.

When they head back to be seen by the doctor, your kids will have the chance to watch their favorite TV show or movie with our ceiling mounted TV’s. If they’re anxious, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) may be recommended to make any necessary procedures safer and less stressful for them.

When should i start bringing my little ones in?

Kids should start visiting the dentist six months after you notice their first tooth has come in or when they turn 1. Bringing your child to the dentist at a young age is the best way to prevent problems such as tooth decay and will also help parents learn the right way to brush baby teeth until your kids are old enough to start doing it themselves.

WHAT WILL YOU DO AT THE FIRST VISIT IF MY CHILD ONLY HAS A FEW TEETH?

At Mint Hill Smiles we believe teaching good habits from a young age can help to prevent a lifetime of dental problems. The first step for young children is to familiarize them with the dental office and start to build a positive relationship with the doctor. Making a dental visit into a family outing that kids look forward to will help prevent the development of dental phobias and anxiety. Our doctors will discuss your children’s diet, habits, tooth brushing routine, and fluoride needs. We will answer all of your questions while making the first visit a positive and fun experience for your child. Not to worry if your child is older. It is never too late to establish a dental home and healthy dental routines!

Additional services for kids

As your child gets older, we may recommend additional services such as fluoride treatments and dental sealants to help build and protect small teeth. These recommendations are customized to your kids specific needs based on their individual diet, brushing routine, and risk of tooth decay.

For kids that are active in group sports, we are happy to discuss the best protective wear for their needs. Getting a custom-fit mouth guard today will prevent a lifetime of problems from a knocked out tooth.

Mint Hill Smiles helps to create healthy smiles for life for kids in Mint Hill, Matthews, and Charlotte, NC.
