Throughout the construction of the office, Dr. Marvelli and Dr. Kamodia made important design decisions that will help Mint Hill Smiles reduce the amount of disposable goods used during patient care as well as save water and reduce energy consumption for many years to come.
The Midmark G5 vacuum, which powers important dental equipment at Mint Hill Smiles, is an environmentally friendly, energy efficient, water-free system. It uses up to 83% less electricity than older systems by modulating pump speed to match demand.
Our Solmetex Hg5 Amalgam Separator protects our water supply in the Mint Hill community. We filter out dental amalgam and mercury from waste water, which would otherwise contaminate the public water supply.
We use an electronic health record software and have all our health records entered directly on to tablets, which saves tons of paper. In addition, our treatment rooms are set up to reduce our consumption of disposable plastic and paper goods. For hygiene reasons, some of the equipment we use needs to be single use. To minimize our environmental impact we have chosen to work with BeeSure products by EcoBee which uses 100% recycled plastic in their products.
Glove Recycling
Mint Hill Smiles is so excited to be partnering with TerraCycle to prevent the large volume of gloves that we generate during patient care from ending up in the landfill. We have retrained ourselves to throw used gloves into separate recycling bins stored in each treatment room. We collect all our used gloves and send them to TerraCycle once we have a full box. TerraCycle then takes our gloves and recycles them into other plastic products.
